Day by day
Day 1: Arrival in Mykonos. Sixteen windmills stand lined up on the hill above Mykonos Town, and their sails turn in the Meltemi. From there you see the sea and the houses of Little Venice. Explore the lanes together, but go for an early dinner on the first evening, because the wind can be cool and the journey may have been long.
Day 2: Ornos Beach. Ornos Beach lies in a sheltered bay on the south coast, the waves stay small and the sand is fine. Sunbeds and parasols are ready, and tavernas reach right to the shore, so meals are possible without long walks. For toddlers the calm location is ideal, and for older ones there is room to swim.
Day 3: Armenistis Lighthouse. The Armenistis lighthouse stands on a steep hill in the north and opens up views of the sea, sunset and neighbouring islands. Go in the late afternoon, take jackets with you since it is windy up there, and keep the children away from the edge. The evening there stays in the memory.
Day 4: Monastery of Tourliani. In the morning Boni's windmill shows how flour used to be made, and children may look at the mechanism up close. Then the drive leads to Ano Mera and the Tourliani monastery, whose dome and bell tower stand in the courtyard. The village square in front offers shade and tavernas for a long lunch break.
Day 5: Manto Mavrogenous Statue. On the square with the statue of Manto Mavrogenous in the Chora you sit in the shade and watch the goings-on. With a little luck the pelican Petros, the island's mascot, walks through the lanes. Afterwards you stroll slowly to the harbour, children count boats and cats, and nobody has to keep up a pace.
Day 6: Mykonos Vioma Organic Farm. Agios Sostis is a quiet beach in the north, where the wind is usually noticeable and nature stays untamed. Take provisions and water with you. A short drive from the Mykonos Vioma farm, an organic operation, completes the day: there children see how vegetables, fruit and animals live and grow together.
Day 7: Farewell to Mykonos. For the farewell you climb once more to the panorama windmill, which allows a wide view over rooftops and sea. The path is short and a little bumpy for pushchairs, but the view makes up for it. Afterwards there is time for a last breakfast in a harbour café, before the ferry or flight awaits and the bags are packed.
