Day 1: Arrival in Sharm El Sheikh. Soho Square fills with light, fountains and music from early evening. Day 3: El Sherif Safari. El Sherif Safari takes you into the desert: quads, camels and a Bedouin tent for the sunset. With small children, choose the calmer options. Ras Mohamed National Park at the tip of the Sinai protects coral reefs, ideal for snorkelling. Pack a headscarf, water and life jackets, as day trips are long and the road to the park is far.

Day 4: Cinderella Eldawley Diving Center. The Cinderella Eldawley Diving Center is a diving site with its own house reef, where advanced divers watch fish. Children stay with you in shallow water or on board. Later Sea Life Sharm Diving Center offers a similar programme in a different location. The sea is usually calm here, but currents are still part of the briefing. Stay close to the children and take care not to touch any of the corals. Afterwards treat yourselves to shade under the sun sail.

Day 6: Reef Oasis Dive Club - Blue Bay. Circle Divers Sharm El Sheikh offers programmes for diving newcomers and snorkellers. Afterwards you drive to Reef Oasis Dive Club Blue Bay, where the bay starts shallow and children see fish along the shore. Do not plan the journey too tightly, as two stops in a heatwave are hard going even for adults.

Day 7: Farewell to Sharm El Sheikh. For the farewell the Echo Temple is worthwhile, a site with an echo and a view of the desert. The visit is short, and the children can try out echoes while climbing, which tends to take longer than planned. Shade is scarce, so take a cap and water. Afterwards there is time to pack and for the journey to Sharm El Sheikh Airport.
