Why this trip
A bamboo raft glides silently over the river, a man steers with the pole, and the couple sit on the deck beneath leaves: Port Antonio is the place where Jamaica shows its quiet side. In the east of the island the town lies between mountains and sea, away from the large resorts, and that is exactly where the appeal lies for honeymooners. The Blue Lagoon is a deep, turquoise basin in which swimming feels like floating. Frenchman's Cove is a small bay with a freshwater stream and sand, a place for a whole afternoon.
The Folly Ruins stand weathered above the sea and suit photos in the evening light. White Man Hole lies ready for excursions into nature. From November to April the air is drier and the jetties are not overcrowded. The Trident Hotel and Castle lies right on the water and is one of the houses with character.
Kingston, Ocho Rios and Montego Bay can be reached as neighbours. Honeymoon plans the routes on a video call so that the coast road does not take the day from you.
