Why this trip
If you do not want to keep repacking on a Cycladic island but would rather arrive, you are right on Naxos. The island is larger and more relaxed than its famous neighbours, and families find room to play here without constantly watching the clock. The Portara, the mighty marble gate at the harbour, makes a lovely walk at sunset, on which children discover the lanes of the old town without getting bored. The Venetian Museum Della Rocca-Barozzi and the Folklore Museum are small houses that bridge a rainy day.
In the Archaeological Museum older children can look at finds from antiquity. The rest of the days belong to the beach, which you choose depending on the wind and the children's ages. The country data name May to June as well as September to October as the best time, when the sea is warm and the heat moderate. With a flight of around 2.5 to 3 hours to Greece and a connection, you reach Naxos.
Paros and Santorini are nearby, but every change costs a day that children would rather spend on the beach.
