Day by day

Day 1: Arrival in St. Moritz. On the way there, a detour to the Beatus Caves on Lake Thun is worthwhile. Lit paths lead through passages and chambers, and waterfalls rush out of the rock. The air is cool and damp, so pack a jumper. School-age children marvel at the stalactites, while smaller ones are better off holding a hand. Then you continue to the Engadine, where you check in to your accommodation.

Day 2: Segantini Museum. In the morning the train runs towards Morteratsch, and children walk along a flat path towards the glacier. Back in St. Moritz, the Segantini Museum awaits with its dome and the painter's large Alpine pictures. About an hour is enough for families there, and afterwards a piece of cake in the village helps you warm up.

Day 3: St. Moritz - Corviglia. Corviglia is the name of the local mountain above the town, reached by funicular. Up top the Engadine lies spread out, with lakes glittering in the depths. In summer children find meadow paths and benches, and in winter snow and pistes for beginners. The altitude takes your breath, so walk slowly and drink plenty.

Day 4: Engadin St. Moritz Mountains. Today your legs can rest, because mountain railways carry you through the Engadine landscape. The Morteratsch Glacier is one of the glaciers of the Bernina group, and a path leads in stages past marked years that show how far the ice has retreated. This explains climate change to children more vividly than any book. Sturdy footwear is a must.

Day 5: Terrasse Panoramique. From the Terrasse Panoramique you look out over the lake and the mountains all around. A short walk is enough to take photos and lead children to the stream at the shore. You will find shade under the trees near the promenade. The rest of the day is left for rest at your accommodation or an ice cream on the village square.

Day 6: THE VIEW. What does modern architecture look like in the high mountains? The Chesa Futura, round and clad in wooden shingles, looks like a spaceship that has landed. Children usually find it funnier than adults do. Afterwards THE VIEW invites you to take in the wide view over the valley. Go only short distances, because the altitude tires you faster than you think.

Day 7: Farewell to St. Moritz. To finish, Swissminiatur puts children on the trail of Switzerland in miniature. Famous buildings and railways stand a few steps apart, and so your children can place the sights they have seen afresh. The park is in Ticino on Lake Lugano, so plan a break from driving. Because of the meadow paths, a pushchair with large wheels is ideal.
