Day by day

Day 1: Arrival in Tulum. You celebrate your arrival in Tulum with a first look at the ruined city of Tulum, which stands on a rock directly above the Caribbean. Visit it only tomorrow morning, otherwise it is too hot. Today a stroll in the town, a cool drink in the shade and an early night are enough. Get the children used to the climate and the time change.

Day 2: Parque Nacional Tulum. Early in the day you visit the Maya ruins in the Parque Nacional Tulum, while the sun is mild. Children look for iguanas between the walls and then swim at the small beach below the site. You spend the afternoon at Xel-Há, a natural pool with snorkelling opportunities. Life jackets make sense there for little ones, and sun cream should be biodegradable.

Day 3: Xplor Park. In Xplor Park you ride zip lines through the jungle, paddle on underground rivers and steer amphibious vehicles. Note the minimum height for the attractions, smaller children have to skip some. The water in the caves is cool, a towel is worthwhile. Plan the park as the destination for the day and drive back in the early evening.

Day 4: ATIK TULUM PARK. In ATIK Tulum Park you experience cenotes that are also well suited to children, with swimming and snorkelling in clear fresh water. For teenagers with diving experience, La Calypso Dive Center offers cenote diving, so clarify age limits in advance. Whoever does not dive stays at the edge and watches fish. Shower before swimming, to protect the cenote.

Day 5: Agua Clara Diving Tulum. Today everything revolves around diving with Agua Clara Diving Tulum, the cenotes are crystal clear and clearly visible. Divers from teenage years receive instruction, younger children can stay on land and snorkel with a parent. Check in advance whether a diving permit and medical fitness are required. Between dives everyone needs a longer break in the shade.

Day 6: Diving Cenotes Tulum. On the sixth day too the cenotes are the focus: Diving Cenotes Tulum and Mexidivers take you to freshwater dives in the jungle. For families without a diving licence, snorkelling with a vest remains the relaxed alternative. The approach is over bumpy tracks, so take mosquito repellent and plenty of water. In the evening a quiet meal on the beach does you good.

Day 7: Farewell to Tulum. To finish, you head to the wooden sculpture by Daniel Popper at the edge of the beach, which children like to circle and photograph. The artwork is freely accessible, so the visit fits between breakfast and departure. Afterwards you pack, shake the sand out of the bags and set off in good time for the airport. Allow plenty of time because of the traffic.
