Honeymoon in the rainy season: is it worth it?

Honeymoon sees rainy-season trips as sensible if couples are flexible and value calm and a better price level. In Bali and Phuket, the rain often falls in heavy showers, while in Tulum hurricane season and seaweed come into play. Flexible planning and a plan for rainy days are important.

A honeymoon in the rainy season can be worth it if you are flexible and see rain as showers rather than constant downpour. Prices are often lower depending on season and category, and the places are quieter. What matters is how well you can live with changes in the weather.

What does rainy season really mean?

Rainy season does not mean it rains all day. In many tropical regions, the rain falls in heavy showers, often in the afternoon or at night. In between, the sun shines, and nature is especially green.

However, it can also be overcast and wet for several days in a row. That depends on the place and the year. Allow for changes in the weather and plan alternatives.

If you travel in the rainy season, you usually book more calmly and with more room on the beach. In return, the weather is less certain. Many couples find precisely this calm a gain, because the pool, spa and restaurant are less busy and the staff have more time.

Bali: rainy season roughly from November to March

In Bali, the rainy season is humid and muggy, with frequent showers. Many couples still experience sunny mornings and lovely evenings. The rice fields are especially green at this time. For honeymoons in winter, that can be an advantage, as prices are below those of the high season, depending on season and category.

Accommodation with a spa and covered terraces is practical. Cooking classes, temple visits and massages also work well in the rain. Swell can limit swimming and surfing on some beaches.

Check the weather situation shortly before departure. The climate does not run the same every year.

Phuket: rainy season roughly from May to October

In the rainy season, Phuket often brings wind and higher swell. On some beaches, swimming bans or warning flags then apply, which you should take seriously. Quieter bays on the sheltered side are then the better choice.

In return, it is cheaper and less crowded. If you value spa, food and time in the hotel, that can fit. If you mainly want to swim and snorkel, it is better to choose another time.

Ask the hotel about the current beach situation and about alternatives such as the pool and excursions. A villa with its own pool makes rainy days more pleasant, because you can get into the water even when the sea is rough.

Tulum: hurricane season and seaweed

In Tulum, the rainy season falls roughly between June and October. Hurricane season prevails in the Caribbean at this time. The risk of severe storms is limited, but real. Watch the weather warnings before the trip. Travellers from Europe should also allow for the high humidity, which is noticeable in these months.

In addition, seaweed can affect the beach in some months. How badly depends on the year. A hotel with a pool and cenote excursions then remains a good choice.

Clarify the cancellation conditions beforehand and have the rules for bad weather explained to you. Discuss health questions with your doctor.

How to plan when the weather is uncertain

Choose a hotel with enough options for rainy days. Spa, restaurant, library and covered areas are important. Plan excursions flexibly and do not book every day in advance. Small hotels with a shared living area, where you can have a coffee when it rains, are good.

Cancellation cover and flexible conditions give security. Read what applies in bad weather and who pays for rebookings.

When the rainy season is especially worthwhile

The rainy season suits couples who do not want to lie on the beach all day anyway. If you like reading, eating, massages or culture, you miss the sun less.

Even if the wedding date is fixed and only a few travel windows remain, the rainy season is an option. It does not replace a perfect beach week, but can bring calm, space and a better price level.

If you are unsure, choose a transitional period at the edge of the rainy season. The chances of dry days are greater there, and prices are still moderate. We will discuss the exact months with you in a video call.
