Why this trip
What happens when thousands of hooves reach a riverbank? The question occupies everyone who thinks of the Masai Mara. The reserve in Kenya is regarded as a savannah with resident and migrating wildlife, and the travel time of July to October coincides with the months in which herds can be in the area. There is no guarantee of when and where animals will cross the river.
That is why good planning combines several areas. The Mara Triangle is a less visited section, the Naboisho Conservancy a large protected area in which lions, elephants and wild dogs live. Balloon flights, for example with Governors' Balloon Safaris, give the view from above, and many drives begin at the Talek Gate. As lodges, the Fairmont Mara Safari Club, the Sarova Mara Game Camp and the Mara Bushtops Luxury Camp are available.
Neighbouring areas such as Lake Nakuru, Amboseli and Nairobi can be linked into a round trip. How many nights you plan in the Mara and which areas suit your pace is best discussed on a video call.
