Day by day

Day 1: Arrival in Split. After arriving, a first walk through Diocletian's Palace is enough: peristyle, narrow lanes, stone arches where street musicians play. Thanks to thick walls the inner courtyard stays cool, ideal for tired travellers. Children count cats and columns while you take a seat in a courtyard café and let the day begin calmly.

Day 2: Krka National Park. Waterfalls, wooden walkways and boat trips: Krka National Park lies north of Split and makes a long day trip. The paths are flat and suitable for children, but take provisions and sun protection. In the evening you stroll along the Riva, where palms, ice cream and harbour light close the day.

Day 3: Forest Park Marjan. On Marjan, the wooded hill of the city, it smells of pines. Paths and steps lead to viewpoints, and a botanical garden lies at the edge. After the climb children recover on the beaches at the foot of the hill. The circuit can be shortened as you like if small legs get tired.

Day 4: Klis Fortress. Klis Fortress towers above the city on a rock, and children conquer walls and gates. Watch out for uneven steps. Afterwards a visit to the Cathedral of St Domnius in the palace is worthwhile: the bell tower is high and the climb steep, so decide together on the spot according to age and stamina.

Day 5: Split Golden Gate. The Golden Gate is the northern entrance to the palace, a Roman archway. In front of it stands the large statue of Gregory of Nin, whose toe visitors rub so that they will return. Children turn it into a game. From there the Đardin park can be reached in a few minutes and used well for a while to linger.

Day 6: Diocletian's Dream. With the VR experience Diocletian's Dream, older children and teenagers experience how the palace once looked. Smaller children are better off waiting during a break at a café. In the afternoon you climb to a viewpoint, the Belvedere, and see the rooftops and islands, a moment to pause and take photos with a sea view.

Day 7: Farewell to Split. To finish, one more photo in front of the big Split lettering at the harbour, a keepsake for everyone. After that there is time for a last breakfast by the water, a few shells as souvenirs and the drive to the airport. The distances in Split are short, so the departure day can be relaxed.
