Why this trip
Between the Fortezza and the beach, Rethymno offers a morning that does not have to make up its mind: if you climb the Venetian fortress, you look from the walls over the rooftops to the sea, and if you head for the water, you enjoy kilometres of sand. For honeymooners the town is a place for variety without hurry. In the lanes of the old town the Venetian Rimondi Fountain splashes, a spot for a coffee, at the harbour the lighthouse juts into the water, and in the town park it is quiet in the evening. On the beach promenade and at Rethymno Beach the day begins with breakfast, and at Platanes Beach there is a quieter stretch.
In the evening you can eat in a taverna under plane trees, with Cretan wine and fish. May to June and September to October bring a warm sea and mild light. The Amira Luxury Resort and Spa is one of the houses offering quiet rooms and a spa. Chania is the neighbour to the west, and Paros, Naxos and Santorini can be reached by ferry.
Honeymoon will coordinate the trip with you on a video call.
