For many couples the honeymoon is the first trip together. Halal-friendly wishes often concern privacy, meals and prayer options. This guide helps with choosing a destination and accommodation and shows which questions are worth asking before booking. It makes no statements on religious questions. If you settle the main points in advance, you travel with less uncertainty and can enjoy your time together more calmly. The following sections take you step by step through preparation, possible destinations, accommodation, meals and organisation.
What to clarify in advance
Discuss as a couple what the trip should deliver: calm, adventure, culture or a mix. This determines destination, length of trip and accommodation. Write down your wishes on meals, prayer and privacy in a few sentences.
Do not plan the trip too soon after the wedding, so that there is room for rest. Check holiday periods and Ramadan, as they affect prices and availability.
Do not fill every day. Free time is important for couples, especially after a wedding with its many appointments. One or two items of programme per week are often enough, and the rest is left for calm, the beach or walks.
Destinations at a glance
For calm and beach, the Maldives and Langkawi are popular destinations. Marrakesh and Istanbul offer culture and food. Oman and the Gulf states combine nature and city.
Each destination has its own strengths and best seasons. Check these for your dates. You will find details in the guides to the individual destinations.
Check whether the hotel particularly welcomes honeymooners. Some properties offer small gestures. Ask, and make sure the offer fits your wishes, for example without alcohol.
Privacy and accommodation
If you want to retreat, villas or smaller properties often offer more calm. Ask about private pools, rooms with screening or a quiet location. Note that such options are limited.
Have assurances recorded in the offer. We ask properties for details and pass on what is promised, without claiming any certification.
On islands such as the Maldives the journey is long. If possible, plan it with breaks, and allow a day for recovery. Ask about transfers that are available at your arrival time.
Meals and prayer
Ask the hotel about cuisine, the origin of the meat and the serving of alcohol. At resorts with half board it matters whether individual restaurants or the whole kitchen are halal. Answers should be in writing.
On request, hotels often provide a prayer mat and mark the direction. More in the guide [Planning a halal trip](/m/halal-travel/planen).
For meals it is worth asking about special menus or evenings. Ask whether halal cuisine is possible outside the buffet. Smaller properties often offer more flexibility than large resorts.
Organisation and flexibility
Choose flexible cancellation terms in case dates shift. Check entry rules and health notices with the FDFA and the FOPH. Travel insurance makes sense for long-haul trips.
At Halal Travel we discuss your wishes by video call and send a non-binding offer. Consultation takes place online only.
Dress according to the customs of the destination and the property. Ask about rules for the beach and pool if privacy matters to you. Some properties offer screened-off areas.
Before booking, discuss as a couple how much programme and how much calm you want. A practical rule is to plan a free day after every day with an excursion. Tell the accommodation early that it is a honeymoon and which wishes you have on meals, room arrangement and prayer, so that everything is prepared. Leave one or two days unplanned so that you can react spontaneously. We are happy to clarify such points with you in a video call before anything is booked.
After the trip
Keep the properties' assurances in case you plan similar trips later. Note what worked well and what did not. These experiences help with future trips as a couple or a family.
We are glad when you give us feedback. It helps us improve offers and our enquiries to properties. For later trips too, we advise you by video call.
Think of the documents: if you change your name after the wedding, the name in your passport must match the flight ticket. Check this early and, if in doubt, clarify with the airline which details are needed. This avoids problems at check-in.
