Why this trip
Venetian harbour, Turkish lanes, mountains at your back: Chania in the west of Crete has more layers than most island towns. Between May and June and from September to October days are warm, the sea is good for swimming, and the harbour promenade belongs once more to guests rather than tour buses. The old town around the harbour is called Kydonia, named after the ancient settlement, and can be explored on foot in the evening. The Maritime Museum of Crete tells of sea trade, and monuments recall the Battle of Crete in 1941.
For snorkelling guests travel to bays outside the town, where the water is clear and boats fill only a few places. Rethymnon, Santorini, Paros and Naxos are neighbours that can be reached by flight or ferry. Timetables change seasonally, which is why Luxury plans connections with a reserve. On Crete a hire car with a driver is worth considering if you are looking for beaches off the main road.
In the video call you clarify whether town, sea or hinterland come first and how many nights Chania needs for that.
