Stag do in Mallorca or Ibiza: which suits better?

Mallorca suits mixed groups who want to combine beach, boat and the city of Palma. Ibiza suits groups who put coves, boat days and sunsets at the centre. Bachelor Trips plans both islands and compares them with you by video call.

Schritt für Schritt

  1. Decide whether the beach alone is enough or whether city and food also play a role.
  2. Check the travel month and direct flights, as Ibiza is served seasonally from Zurich.
  3. Compare types of accommodation, such as an apartment in Palma or a hotel on the coast.
  4. Enquire about boats and restaurants early, because high season books up quickly.
  5. Clarify how the group gets around the island, with transfer, taxi or hire car.
  6. Decide between the two islands with a poll.

Mallorca is the broader all-rounder, while Ibiza is the stronger beach destination with a focus on boat days and sunsets. Both islands are about two hours' flight from Zurich, but differ in character and effort. Here best men read which island suits which group.

How do the two islands differ in character?

Mallorca is more versatile. Besides beaches there is Palma with its old town, harbour and restaurants, plus mountains and small villages. Anyone who does not just want to lie by the water finds enough variety here. For groups who cannot agree on a style, this diversity is a quiet argument.

Ibiza is more clearly focused. Coves, boats and sunsets are at the centre, and the group spends a lot of time on the water. Anyone who likes that will find the island more fitting.

Both islands have quieter and louder corners. Check before booking which area the accommodation is in, otherwise a group that wants to celebrate quietly ends up in the middle of the hustle and bustle.

What about travel and season?

Both destinations are about two hours' flight from Zurich. Mallorca is served far more often, including outside high season. Ibiza has rather seasonal connections from Zurich. Check the flight schedules for your date before you fall in love with an island.

The swimming season runs roughly from May or June to September. In spring and autumn it is quieter and usually cheaper, but the water is cooler and not every facility is open.

High season means higher prices and less choice. Ibiza is in particularly strong demand in the summer months. Anyone who books early has considerably more room for manoeuvre with accommodation and boat.

Which accommodation suits which island?

In Mallorca, accommodation near Palma is worthwhile if the group wants to combine city and beach. Restaurants, taxis and the harbour are within reach, and a hire car is hardly needed.

In Ibiza the distances are longer and public transport is weaker. Here the choice of location matters more, and a transfer should be organised before arrival. Ask providers whether the pick-up service applies to the whole group.

On both islands, check the number of beds and the house rules. Many accommodations have clear quiet hours, and informing the group beforehand saves discussions with the neighbours.

Which activities suit which island?

In Mallorca, a boat excursion with swimming stops works just as well as a shared dinner in Palma. A day with bikes or a hike is also possible if parts of the group are more active. Both islands offer quieter coves for the morning and livelier stretches in the evening.

In Ibiza, the private boat day comes first. It is often followed by an evening by the water with the sunset. Here too, plan breaks and enough water, because sun and salt tire you more than you think.

Think about responsibility with alcohol. In heat and on a boat, food, water and shade are part of it. Anyone who organises this protects the group and the groom.

How is the decision made?

Mallorca wins with mixed groups, a wider choice and more flexible travel months. Ibiza wins when the group puts sea, sun and boat days first and can book early.

Do not simply ask which island is better, but what the group wants to do at the weekend. The answer usually settles the island by itself.

If the group cannot agree, we compare both islands with you. Bachelor Trips is a Swiss travel agency with video consultation and places flights, accommodation and programme side by side. That saves time and stops you checking offers twice.

What should you watch before booking on both islands?

Check availability early. Group accommodation and boats are taken quickly on both islands in the summer months, and last-minute offers are rare. Six months of lead time is a sensible figure for July and August, while less is enough in quieter months, although this varies from group to group.

Clarify the rules on site. Both islands have rules on noise, alcohol in public spaces and behaviour towards residents. Anyone who follows them gets much more out of the weekend and is also welcome again next year. Briefly inform the group about this before departure.

Think about protection and health. Sun protection, water, breaks in the shade and a clear meeting point at the boat belong to every day by the sea. That is no killjoy, but makes sure Saturday does not end at three o'clock with sunburn and a headache.
