Planning a stag do: how early is early enough?
As a rule, plan a stag do three to four months ahead, and six months for summer destinations such as Mallorca or Split and for large groups. Early means more choice of flights, accommodation and boats. Bachelor Trips plans lead time and deadlines with your group by video call.

For most destinations three to four months of lead time is enough, while for summer on islands and large groups six months is better. Anyone who starts too late pays with less choice and more stress. This guide shows which deadlines best men should keep in view.
Why does planning early bring so much?
Groups need more than individual travellers. Accommodation for ten people, a boat or a reserved table are not available at will. The earlier you enquire, the more choice you have of location and facilities. This applies especially to accommodation with several bedrooms, which is sought after by groups.
The group benefits too. Anyone who knows half a year ahead can book leave, move appointments and plan for the money. That reduces the number of cancellations considerably.
Then there is the cost aspect. Flights and accommodation are generally cheaper when booked early, depending on season and category. There is no guarantee, but the odds favour an early start.
How much lead time does which destination need?
For cities such as Prague, Krakow or Budapest three months is often enough, as there is plenty of accommodation and many providers. In high season or on long weekends it should be somewhat more. Also check whether events are on at the weekend that push prices up.
For Barcelona and Amsterdam allow four to six months. Both cities are in strong demand, and accommodation for groups is limited, especially in summer. Anyone who hesitates here often pays with a worse location or less choice in room allocation.
Island destinations such as Mallorca or Split need the longest lead time in summer. Direct flights are partly seasonal, and boats and accommodation for groups are taken early. Six months is an honest recommendation here.
Which tasks fall in which month?
Six to five months ahead is about group, date and framework. Anyone who works cleanly here makes everything else easier. Record the results in writing so that nobody renegotiates later. A shared calendar or a checklist makes this phase visible and helps the team.
Four to three months ahead come destination, flight and accommodation. Book as soon as the confirmations are binding. Clarify who books and when which payment is due.
Two months ahead the programme is due, and one month ahead documents and details. In the last week you check meeting points, times and payments. After that, all that remains is to look forward to the trip.
What if you are running late?
A stag do can be organised at short notice too, but with limitations. You have less choice, must be more flexible on destinations and dates and should be able to do without direct flights and a perfect location.
Choose destinations with a large supply. Berlin, Prague or Vienna still offer plenty even at short notice. Do without complex programmes and keep the planning lean.
Act quickly, but not in a rush. Decide the three most important things, namely date, destination and accommodation, and sort out the rest afterwards. Advice by video call saves a lot of time in this phase. It is demanding, but doable if the framework is clear and the group pulls together.
How do you keep the group on board?
Set deadlines and stick to them. Anyone who waits four weeks for an answer loses momentum and offers. A short date for confirmation in the group chat works wonders.
Share progress. An interim update, such as the booked hotel or the confirmed boat trip, raises anticipation and the commitment of the confirmations. Small success reports also keep the hesitant on board.

What role do holidays and public holidays play?
School holidays, public holidays and bridge days change flight prices and availability more than any other detail. A weekend with a long public holiday is popular, but also fully booked. Check the calendar of the destination and of Switzerland before proposing a date.
Also ask about events at the destination. Trade fairs, festivals or sporting events fill accommodation and drive up prices. A short search for the planned date prevents your group from landing in the middle of a sold-out city week.
Offer two date proposals. That keeps the group flexible, and you can choose the date that suits flights and accommodation better. Set a deadline for the reply, so that nothing drags on for weeks.
