Why this trip
The alarm rings at half past two, then the climb begins to the sunrise above Bali's volcanoes. If you walk stages in the morning, you have time for beach and rice terraces during the day. April to October is the dry season, and paths are surer underfoot, the sea clearer. Under water there are several dive sites and bases that serve beginners and advanced divers.

The ascent of Batur takes a few hours, leads over lava rock and requires a head torch, sturdy shoes and a warm layer for the summit.
