Overview
Thailand has two faces, and active travellers should know both: in the north highlands with jungle paths, in the south limestone cliffs and sea. From November to April it is dry and somewhat less humid, which is important for hikes and climbing tours. Chiang Mai lies in green mountains, and Doi Inthanon, Thailand's highest mountain, offers waterfalls, pagodas and cooler air. Krabi is known for cliffs where people climb, and for kayak routes through mangroves and coves.
Phuket brings diving and snorkelling sites, and on Koh Jum things are calm, with paths through rubber plantations and almost no traffic. Bangkok suits as an intermediate stop. The heat challenges the body more than many expect, even in the more pleasant season. Start hikes early in the morning, drink regularly and plan breaks in the shade or in the water in the afternoon, so that your fitness lasts for the next day.
The flight takes approx. 11 to 12 hours, so there is time in the first days to adjust the body. In the video call you discuss how north and south can sensibly be linked in your travel time.
