Day by day in Split
Day 1
Day 1: Arrival and getting your bearings
Diocletian's Palace is not a museum behind glass but an old town with alleys, cellars and stairs, which you walk on foot straight after arrival. The paving is smooth and the stone warm, so sturdy footwear is worthwhile even on the first evening. This calm tour gives you the orientation for the stages to come.

Day 2: Exploring
Krka National Park lies in the hinterland and offers wooden boardwalks at waterfalls, boat trips and ruins. Expect a long day and bring swimwear. Back in Split, the Riva with its promenade closes the day, a flat path by the water for tired legs. Take the bus early, then the boardwalks are empty and the light is soft.

Day 3
Day 3: Out and about
Marjan Park is a wooded hill with jogging trails and viewpoints over the sea, best run before breakfast. The Klis Fortress lies above the town on a mountain saddle, with ramparts and a wide view. Both places call for fitness and water. The paths in Marjan are dry and stony, running shoes with a tread are better than sandals.

Day 4
Day 4: A demanding day
The Golden Gate is the northern entrance of the palace, adorned with Roman arches and statues. In the VR experience Diocletian's Dream you see the complex reconstructed. A day that combines walking and marvelling and allows a break in the shade at midday. Expect crowds in the alleys, take water and light luggage.

Day 5
Day 5: A calm active day
The Belvedere viewpoint above Split rewards the climb with rooftops and islands. The Split sign at the harbour is a popular photo motif. A calm active day with short routes and plenty of light, ideal for photos in the morning mood. The steps to the Belvedere are steep but short, and the view rewards every pause.

Day 6
Day 6: A day of discovery
The palace once more, this time with the knowledge from the first day and with an eye for details such as the cellar vaults. Krka Park is worth a second round on a different path. Plan time for a swim, the water cools you after long boardwalks. The water in the park is cool, a towel in your rucksack is worthwhile for every spot for bathing.

Day 7
Day 7: An active day
Marjan and Klis a second time, now with a sure step on stone and gravel. If you like, run Marjan as a loop and climb to Klis later. Bring a head covering, shade is rare and wind is slight. Support yourself on the walls when gravel rolls under your soles.

Day 8
Day 8: Last day and departure
The Cathedral of Domnius arose from a mausoleum and has a Romanesque bell tower. The climb over narrow steps is the last feat of strength of the trip. Afterwards one more slow coffee at the harbour, before the transfer begins. The paving is smooth, walk the last round slowly and with a firm step.
