Swimming in the Rhine in summer shows how Basel understands movement: you get in upstream, drift with the current and climb out again at the bank. The city on the Rhine bend lies where three countries meet and is therefore a starting point for tours into the Jura, the Black Forest and the Vosges, with routes for very different levels of fitness.
