Why this trip
Where Crete seems most relaxed lies Rethymnon: a Venetian old town with narrow lanes, plus a sandy beach that borders directly on the seafront promenade. For a send-off without haste this is a fitting place, because day and evening take place in the same district. The Rethymno lighthouse at the harbour is a good introduction as a stroll, and the Fortezza above the town offers the view of the sea. By day the beach belongs to the group, and in the town park shade can be found in between.
In the evening the group moves to the tavernas of the old town and shares one meze after another at the long table, without anyone having to organise the order. May to June and September to October are the months in which water and air are pleasant. The flight from Switzerland takes about 2.5 to 3 hours, and entry is visa-free (Schengen). Chania is close for an excursion, and Santorini, Paros and Naxos suit an extension.
Bachelor Trips agrees hire car, rooms and evening programme in a video call.
