Why this trip
Dolomite walls frame the valley, and in summer the ski circuit becomes a hiking area. Val Gardena, the Gröden valley in South Tyrol, lies on the Sellaronda and has three villages from which lifts lead to high levels. The Col Raiser gondola takes you to a summit plateau with paths for summer activities, the Funivie Ciampinoi leads to a wooded summit. If you travel with children or experienced hikers, you find paths of every difficulty, from broad tracks to steep ascents.
From Ortisei you reach the Seiser Alm at around 2,000 metres by cable car, a wide high plateau that suits long, flat stages. The view of the Sassolungo justifies every metre of ascent you walk afterwards. April to June and September to October are the months that apply for your trip file. Note that in the edge months lifts and huts may be only partly open.
