Why this trip

Early in the morning, before the beaches open, Ibiza shows a different face. Then the coastal paths around Portinatx in the north lie still, and the water in the coves is crystal clear. Anyone who wants to experience the island actively seeks exactly these hours: hikes over rocky plateaus, snorkelling in Cala Xarraca and kayak tours along the steep coast. In the south the picture changes.

Sa Punta Galera in the west is among the coastal stretches that you discover on foot and not by hire car, and Cala Nova in the east suits movement by the water far from the bustle of beach clubs. Half a day of coastal hiking needs sturdy footwear, sun protection and enough water, even if the ascent is manageable. The quiet months are April to June and September to October, when the island is not too hot and not yet overcrowded.
